Notes: Ethan Fry. * New song. % (Brad quotes Mr. P.C.) # a Robert Frost poem, set to music by Brad ^ aka "Squeezy Toe" or "Esquisito" ! John Lennon cover. First Time Played. The sound was pretty boomy, but the crowd was nicer, and the room felt like a venue for music, and not for misery. The Earth Will Disseminate is incredible. They played it in Pittsburgh last they were there, and it blew me away, though I didn't know it's name. What I wrote in my set list then was "Awesome!!!", and it's still true. Tenfold remains strong, and I think the Coltrane licks came from the day's listening. Fuji is still surpisingly intersting for as silly as it seems to be, and Tinderbox is a powerhouse. I hadn't actually heard it live until last night, and it has risen from 'alright' to "Holy Shit!". Sam seemed to recognize the Lockless Door, though Brad later told me it was a first time played. Lucky Toe was a nice treat, and I didn't know they remembered Joe Higley, it's been so long. Dogs was more mellow than the absolute all-out throw-DOWN that i remember it as (see late 1999). I guess they rehearsed Imagine just a few days ago, and pulled it out. Talk about a crowd pleaser. Marc (and Brad?) played the melody, and the crowd sang the lyrics (as much as we all remembered). Someone told me this theory that Marc always calls Sorry when he feels like he blew it somewhere. Like he's really apologizing. If he did blow it, it wasn't while I was looking.

Notes: ! "BAM impersonators" -- At the beginning of the show (before set one), Sam Leonard, John ??? and Tim Lanterman (SJT) came out dressed as Brad, Marc and Andrew (respectively--beards, clothing, etc.). The lights were dim, so folks didn't notice. Many of the long-time Slip fans were fooled by this point, and SJT played Honey Melon! extremely ("surprisingly") well, catching the audience off-guard. The Slip then appeared and began posing, which cracked up the audience. Before Yellow Med., Brad said they had been playing a lot of "new songs" and that they were going to play an older one. Tim came out during Happy Snails and played the maracas while Andrew played the PVC pipes. During The Slip's 'Honey Melon' E:, SJT came out on stage and did their version of the Slip's posing from earlier. [Cleantone, unknown, Sammy, Phrazz - Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 15:04 - 19:00 ] % new vocal tune in the middle? [BRAD BARR: ^ I just wanted to let you guys know, the song that came out at the end of Sorry that night, the one you thought might have been by Built to Spill, is a song I wrote years ago for my Uncle Ted, who passed away("As a token of my appreciation/so you can verify/that nothing in this life you did in vein/to that I'll testify........"). I call it "In Life You Were an Ocean(In Death You Are the Rain)". For the record, the only BTS songs we've played have been "Else", "Carry The Zero"(not to be confused with "The Zeroes", aka "Children of December", aka "Children of December", aka "Birthdays"), and a slight tease of( I forget the name)"We're special in other ways", at the acoustic show at Helsinki, also at the end of Sorry. Any questions, let me know. Kewl. Out..... [ brad - Mon Aug 18 2003

20030910: Soho: Santa Barbara, CA
Notes: The place was getting so down and dancy on this particular evening. The E: was ridiculous. Marc brought the intensity with the Baba O'Riley intro, the crowd erupted and screamed "teenage wasteland" with Brad, and then this second E: was a good 20 minutes of improv, that funky loop jam in the style of Charlottesville in February of 2002. It proceeded to get very risque and stony in that place and the jam, which was dedicated to 9/11, broke down into MJ's "Man in the Mirror" and then into "Sorry." After everyone left and the place was just about empty, Brad closed the bar down with "Drown In My Own Tears" solo on the grand piano. [ Ted Kartzman - Thursday, September 18, 2003 ]

Notes: $ Extended Marc solo. * Brad dedicated this song to some family members who were at the show. ** Brad announced that this song was written by Marc, and its called either reddish moon, or my landlord. ! Some people had been requesting this one throughout the show, the seemed very happy when it was played. Brads guitar came unplugged in the middle of the song leading to a little dissaray, but recovered quickly. Brad Tossed his strat a good 15 to 20 feet across the stage to andrew, who joined in on the opening chords. This was easily the best show of the run. Really solid setlist, everything was great, but it REALLY took off at sorry. Sorry was spectacular with an on the dime segue into the best version of WOWOY ive ever heard, some real intensity here. From here on out the room was absolutely rocking. I also thought That Brads singing was particularly on tonight, he hit every note perfectly. As a whole the run was really great, maybe lacking the intimacy and tender magic that is sometimes present at a REALLY amazing slip show (although the last half of thursday was getting there), but completely enjoyable and moderately mind boggling. The songs that i hadnt heard before ( Even rats, reddish moon, paper birds) Were really great, and i was more than happy to hear them each night. Even Rats is going to be a fan favorite very soon. Its amazing to me the smallness of the crowds here in colorado, theres something wrong, because i know there are plenty of people here who do/would LOVE this music. [robert] & tease at end of chorus of Run River Run (Nathan Moore tune). [Katie]

Notes: Else contained a "Blue Moon" jam at the end. A pretty off the wall Sorry, jamming off into the abyss, only to bring it back to the main riff, and repeat. Sometimes True To Nothing contained a frenzy-of-noise jam at the end. [ francis billynuggetsATgmail.com - Nov 5 EST 2005 ]

Notes: * w/ drum beat and loops. ^ not sure of title, so I guessed. Brad sat in with Nathan from "Gotta Make It" on. Very intimate show in a room like an old train car, very narrow. People were sitting on the floor, anywhere they could squeeze. Nathan seemed to be trying out some new material. Great crowd/band interactions like snapping, singing along and plenty of banter. They asked what we wanted them to close with and I shouted "Don't Have to Say You're Sorry" and they ended up closing with it which was nice of them. Great night, wish I could've been at Union Hall but at least I caught this one. I have some pics and a short video clip that I'll post once I get the pics on my computer. JB and Zoe were both taking a bunch of pics too and there was a woman videotaping the whole show with a nice camera so we'll see if that ever surfaces. [Bear - SlipLive - 9/18/2007]
